CARABINER SHOWN FOR SCALE ONLY

If at all possible you should construct your anchor system from a fixed object such as a tree, steel beam or apparatus. However, they are not always available in the right places so sometimes you have to create your own anchors. Pickets are driven in the desired location with a sledge hammer or large mallet. The pickets should be set in the ground at a 15 degree angle away from the load and in line with the direction of the anticipated force. The webbing or rope between pickets should always run from the top of one picket to the bottom of the one behind it.

Always be aware of the fact that the primary factor in the strength of a picket system is the holding power of the soil. Drive three or more pickets into the ground and tension them together to form an equalized anchor system.

Proper training and experience is mandatory - practice with your picket system before working with live loads!
