The popular Petzl Grigri allows belaying and lowering of a climber. A handle allows easy control of the device and smooth running of the rope. The GRIGRI can improve safety in climbing as can the seat-belt in a car, because it jams when tension comes on the rope.

When movements are slow, the rope runs freely through the device; - When there is a shock load, the GRIGRI locks, jamming the rope with a cam.

ADVICE: in spite of a large safety margin, the GRIGRI does not mean that the belayer no longer needs to watch the leader. When lowering, one hand pulls on the handle while the other maintains tension in the free end of the rope, controlling speed of the descent. This "brake hand" must not let go of the rope as it controls the braking and speed of descent.

The GRIGRI is not a substitute for skilled, vigilant belaying!

WARNING: while descending with the GRIGRI - braking is done with the brake hand on the free end of the rope, just as with any other descending device. The handle is not the brake and the person rappelling must be completely aware of this fact. As with any other rappelling device, its use requires care and proper training.

The GRIGRI is designed for indoor climbing or well-equipped sport climbing, not for alpinism or adventure climbing.Use on UIAA single 10-11 mm dynamic rope (9,7 mm accepted).

Warning, holding the rope becomes more difficult when its diameter is less than 10 mm: the shape of the hand limits the effectiveness of its grip on a thin rope. Individually tested. CE certified.
